Ultra Rare 19th Century Ottoman "Sırma" Embroidery - Janissary and Ashik (Minstrel) Scene
A museum-quality masterpiece of Ottoman textile art. This extraordinary 19th-century wall hanging is a rare "Figurative" embroidery, diverging from the more common floral patterns to depict a vivid scene from Ottoman social life.
The Scene: This piece features a captivating assembly of Janissaries (the elite infantry units of the Ottoman Sultans) listening to an Ashik (a traditional Anatolian folk poet and singer) playing the Saz. This represents the heart of Ottoman folk culture and the famous coffeehouse gatherings of the era.
Technique: Exquisitely hand-crafted using the "Sırma" technique (gold/silver metal thread embroidery) on a rich, chocolate-brown velvet base. The tarnished patina of the metal threads is a testament to its 150+ year history.
Dimensions: Approximately 40 x 40 cm (15.7" x 15.7"), including its original fringed borders.
Provenance & Rarity: Figurative embroideries featuring Janissary themes are exceptionally rare and highly sought after by collectors of Islamic art and military history.
Condition: Authentic antique condition with a beautiful aged patina. Minor wear on the velvet and metal threads consistent with age, which adds to its historical character.
